Shamrock Rovers - Derry City

After two decades living in the shadow, the most successful Irish club (15 times league champion and 24 cup winner) finally have something to show. After many years playing the games on other team’s grounds, Rovers got their own home (Tallaght Stadium) and this season looks like the start of new golden era for the club. Currently, they hold the second place on the table with six points less (and a game less) than leaders Bohemians and although nobody in the club speaks loudly about that, everybody hopes the title can be conquered. Rovers have incredible record of 11 unbeaten games, five at home (four wins and a draw). In the previous round, against Bohs on the road, team put the excellent defensive display, saving the net and winning a point. For tonight’s encounter, boss Michael O’Neill has some injury concerns. Defender Ian Bermingham has a knee problem and will be sidelined. Midfielders Ollie Cahill and Stephen Rice are recovering from the knocks they got in the game against Bohs, but it is expected they’ll play. As forward Padraig Amond who’s struggling with a knee injury. Winger Sean O’Connor returns from suspension. During the week, Rovers have signed strong defender Pat Sullivan.

Derry City lie on the fourth place on the table, five points less than third Cork City and European qualifications. It seems the players are loosing the breath lately, as they recorded three 0-1 defeats (Dundalk, Drogheda United, Bohemians) and 1-1 home draw against Cork City, from last four games. Another defeat would be a big strike to their European ambitions. Team played hard game in Bulgaria against CSKA Sofia (lost 0-1, again) at thursday night and the big question is how much players will physically recover, especially older players like Peter Hutton who is 36. Also, boss Stephen Kenny will have a difficult task to motivate players for tonight’s very important clash in Dublin. Derry have a lots of problems with scoring, they noticed only 3 goals on last 7 competitive games. Hutton has no other choice, than to set up defensive formation again, hoping one counter attack can bring three points. It will be harder as defenders Peter Hutton and Eddie McCallion are serving one match suspensions.

It’s no doubt Derry will come in the game with thought to keep their net. One point would be a nice achieve. Unfortunately for them, Shamrock have different plans. With a win tonight, Rovers will come on just three points from the title. And they surely count on big financial crisis that Bohs is facing with and potential drop in performances and loosing the points. We won’t see to many goals tonight, but considering all the facts hosts seem close to notice three points. Odds are fine and worth of risk. 888sports offer 2.00. Home win.
