Birmingham are finishing very successful season for them. However, they’re in a bad run of results with eight games without a win and four consecutive draws at home. In previous round, lost a derby game vs. Villa, despite very good display. If they fail in last two games, theoretically could lost four places. Side-back, Stephen Carr, is banned for one match in light of the gestures he made at Aston Villa. Striker Christian Benitez may feature after a six-game absence.
.
Burnley booked their ticket to Championship long time ago. Their Premiership story came to end when Owen Coyle left the club. Everything after that have been just torturing the fans. Chairman Barry Kilby said, thankfully to this season they won’t have any financial worries in next 10 years. If it was a target, ok then. Regarding their performances, without Coyle they’re just an average Championship squad. With new manager, Brian Laws (have picked up just 7 points from a possible 48 since he took the charge) they’re even less than that. They stopped winning at home, while on the road have 16 defeats of 18 games (goal difference 16-50)! Haven’t noticed a clean sheet in 25 games and need to concede against Brum to equal Wimbledon's Premier League record from 11 years ago. Defender Clarke Carlisle is absent again.

No way I'll take 1.65-1.70 for a home win in semi-final of Champions League. Germans are the obvious favorites, but with that price... I'll pass.
.
Odds on Aston Villa are around even, openning were 2.20. Don't like too much to back Villa on the road and if I didn't take it then, looks pointless to do it now. Maybe -0.25 at 1.80 (think StanJames) could be a good call. Will decide later.
.
Isn't too helpfull post. The biggest blog attendance, yesterday. Thanks. Hope some took Notts County without handicap.

At the first glance,I can’t see any losing points for top three. All have more than decent records against Villa,Birmingham and Bolton.Arsenal and Chelsea should go in over,as well.
A question for million dollars is does Zola remind you on Shearer (or Southgate)?Still can not imagine West Ham in Championship, but wouldn’t dare even to think about backing them again.Especially at that price.

Aston Villa took a giant stride towards Wembley as James Milner's first-half winner gave them victory in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg at Blackburn Rovers.
Milner rounded off a devastating break after 23 minutes when he turned in Stewart Downing's cross as Villa swept the length of the field.
It gave Martin O'Neill side a deserved advantage and provided a rich reward for Villa's attacking strategy as they dominated a jaded Blackburn side playing their second game this week.
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce felt the full force of Ewood Park's fury as his side laboured to make any impression on Villa in the early exchanges, with the half-time whistle being greeted by a chorus of jeering.
But Blackburn improved hugely after the break only to find their luck was out as striker Nikola Kalinic twice hit the woodwork, firstly with a close-range header, then with a shot from 12 yards.
Villa always carried the greater threat and will now be firm favourites to progress to a Carling Cup final date against either Manchester City or Manchester United, after next week's second leg at Villa Park.
Blackburn's winless sequence now stretches to 12 games, although they did knock Chelsea out of this competition on penalties.
And it is hard to see how they will turn this semi-final around on the evidence of current form.
That would leave Allardyce and Blackburn with a fight for Premier League survival as their only goal for the rest of the season, a task to be played out in front of what appears to be an increasingly disenchanted Ewood Park public.
Allardyce employed Kalinic as a lone striker from the start - but he was knocking at a firmly closed door for long periods as he attempted to get the better of Villa's central defensive duo, Richard Dunne and James Collins.

Rovers are in a winless run of eleven competitive games. Unofficially, Sam Allardyce got two more games to improve the things. First of them comes tonight against Villa and progress to Wembley could erase all the errors. First problem is Big Sam almost lost all support from the fans and players as well. His 4-5-1 formation, even at home, hasn’t brought too much good. Fans think team shouldn’t look such defensive at home, while even players don’t seem too much interested to change something. In my opinion there’s much bigger chance to Allardyce face the exit door after few more failures than to improve anything. Next obstacle for improvement is injury list that consist some very important players. Midfielder Grella and forward Roberts are ruled out, while striker Benni McCarthy and defender Givet remain doubtful. Also, key striker El-Hadji Diouf is absent through the suspension. This will be the second game this week, while third at Sunday when they’ll host Fulham is probably most imported. On all of this should be added bad mutual score against Villa, Rovers won just once in last eight games (draw also once and lost other six).
Aston Villa is in much better position than tonight’s opponent. They bounced back after two consecutive defeats in Premier (Arsenal away 0-3 and Liverpool at home 0-1) with a win against Blackburn in FA Cup (3-1 at
Tonight, much more will depend from Villa than from

Darron Gibson stated an eloquent case for Manchester United's young brigade by scoring twice to send the holders into the Carling Cup semi-final at the expense of Spurs at Old Trafford.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had reacted angrily to criticism levelled at his emerging stars after the defeat against Besiktas that ended their 23-game unbeaten home record in the Champions League.
Ferguson launched a passionate defence of his home-grown products and gave them another chance to impress against Spurs - and 22-year-old Gibson was the star of the show as United saw off Harry Redknapp's side in a repeat of last season's Wembley final.
Gibson opened the scoring with an early long-range finish, then produced an even more spectacular effort just before half-time to put United into the last four on a rain-sodden Old Trafford night.
Spurs' challenge fizzled out after a bright start, with United defender Nemanja Vidic providing experience and a formidable barrier on the rare occasions when the Londoners did threaten.

Portsmouth 2-4 Aston Villa
Stewart Downing scored on his first start for Aston Villa as they secured a deserved victory over Portsmouth in the Carling Cup quarter-final.
Stiliyan Petrov sliced a corner into his own net to give Portsmouth the lead but a minute later Emile Heskey ran through on goal to chip Villa level.
James Milner's drive put the visitors ahead and Downing's second-half header seemed to have settled the tie.
A Kanu strike gave Pompey hope but Ashley Young's goal extinguished it.
Portsmouth boss Avram Grant's last game as a manager in this competition was a defeat to Tottenham in the 2008 final during his time at Chelsea.
However, in stark contrast to his time at Stamford Bridge, Grant is now tasked with steering a struggling side away from the Premier League relegation zone.
To this end, Grant rested his first-choice strikers Frederic Piquionne and Aruna Dindane with Danny Webber and John Utaka coming in.

A thrilling last-gasp victory over 10-man Aston Villa hauled West Ham out of the Premier League drop zone for the first time since late September.
Mark Noble converted a West Ham penalty on the stroke of half-time.
Robert Green saved an Ashley Young spot kick shortly after the break, but levelled soon afterwards with a curling effort that was more cross than shot.
Habib Beye saw red late in the game before substitute Zavon Hines prodded home from close range at the death.
After a torrid start to the campaign, West Ham's first home victory in the Premier League this season - and first win anywhere since the opening day - should do much to lighten the mood in E13.
But Villa manager Martin O'Neill will be desperately disappointed by his side's failure to reap greater benefit from a first-half spell in which West Ham were twice forced to regroup in the wake of injuries at both ends of the pitch.
Defensive lapses have repeatedly proved costly for West Ham since James Collins' defection to Villa two months ago, a situation which manager Gianfranco Zola sought to address by drafting in Julien Faubert and Manuel Da Costa, for Jonathan Spector and James Tomkins respectively.

The Villains took only two points from last three games on the road (Blackburn Rovers 1-2, Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 and Everton 1-1), but still hold a high position in Premier and win at East London would launch them on place number four. Craig Bellamy's second-half equaliser earned Manchester City a deserved point and lifted them into the top four after former captain Richard Dunne threatened to wreck Gareth Barry's return to Aston Villa.
Dunne declined the opportunity to celebrate in front of City's fans when he beat Barry to James Milner's corner to head Villa in front early on.
And he almost added a second before City's growing superiority was rewarded when Bellamy turned Emmanuel Adebayor's cross high beyond Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel after 67 minutes.
City looked the more likely to claim the three points in the closing stages of an entertaining confrontation between two clubs hoping to disturb the established order in the top four of the Premier League.
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill:
"I'm disappointed with the result but not the performance because we were just fantastic.
"The first half was just about the best we have played and we could have gone 2-0 up. City came into it after because they are a very, very good side.
"The players and the crowd were all fantastic tonight. We were very strong and we played some great stuff too."
Man City manager Mark Hughes:
"A lot of teams will come here and go under, but I thought we showed a lot of very good qualities.
"We got level and as the game wore on I thought we looked more likely to win it. But we'll take a point and we've had a fantastic start to the season.
"When we come back after internationals we will start all over again."

Last minute defeat against Blackburn (1-2 on the road) ended Villa’s six-match winning streak in all competitions. Despite the good results lately, the Villans face the same problems as usual, that means ambitions (brake in the top four of English football) and real capabilities (team for 6-7 place). Currently they have two major problems. Strong defence line brings the advantage for the set pieces, but they’re also very slow and always have a lots of problems against fast players. Other problem is a ball transition. Midfield line is tireless, but lack in creativity which cause the strikers are usually cut off from the play. Steve Sidwell has recovered (not fully fit though) and his duty will be a final pass to Agbonlahor and Heskey (more likely than Carew). Attacking line is the strongest weapon. Gabby Agbonlahor has been playing in a great shape, has scored in last four games and deserved Capello’s call for a national team. However, his play will depend from mentioned passing from midfield. Luke Young is unlikely to start his season as he builds up his fitness. Villa have conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season (five).
Considering players individual qualities, City probably have the best squad in League. £200m summer outlay brought a league start over the expectations. Five wins and unlucky defeat against city rivals from opening six rounds. Mark Hughes is doing a great work and only question is are they capable to keep this pace. Their weakest link is defence line, also. Micah Richards on right flank, despite his obvious talent, lacks in concentration and sometimes makes a mess in front the goal (two goals against United were a result of that). Toure and Lescott maybe worth invested money in them, but they as a central duo need some time playing together to achieve safety in back line. However, I don’t expect City will attack in waves and they’ll have a help from midfield. And here we come to the main advantage for Sky Blue’s. Wright-Phillips, Barry, Ireland (second most important player in the team) and Petrov should make the advantage in midfield and feed with balls their attackers. Emmanuel Adebayor (first most important player) who has scored in all four of his league matches for City returned to the team and will be the main threat. Bellamy and Tevez have been playing in a great shape and the question is who will stay on the bench tonight (I guess Tevez).
Despite the both teams have a great attacking force, I don’t expect an open game from the start. One point shouldn’t be a failure for both sides. Villa will wait for some set piece, City for some run on the wing or Ireland’s piece of magic. I think visitors are closer to win here, but cover a draw. 1.84 at Pinnacle.

Aston Villa produced an outstanding defensive display to secure their first win against Liverpool in eight years as Rafael Benitez's side continued their stuttering start to the new Premier League campaign.
Villa had been heavily criticised after losing their opening home game to Wigan Athletic and slumping to defeat in the Europa League against Rapid Vienna - but they answered all the questions in emphatic fashion at Anfield.
Liverpool faded after a bright start, and have now lost as many league games as they did last season following losses against Spurs and now Villa.
Anfield was left frustrated as Liverpool wasted the opportunities that came their way, but ultimately they were reduced to running up blind alleys, and out of ideas, in the face of Villa's resilience.
Villa were set on their way after 34 minutes when Lucas deflected Ashley Young's free-kick into his own net, and they grabbed a second on the stroke of half-time when Curtis Davies headed in Nicky Shorey's corner at the near post.
Liverpool surged forward after the break, but met a white wall of resistance as Villa defended their precious lead, with Carlos Cuellar outstanding and goalkeeper Brad Friedel a commanding presence.
Fernando Torres gave Liverpool hope with a close-range strike after 72 minutes, but any hopes of a dramatic revival ended three minutes later when Steven Gerrard brought down Nigel Reo-Coker and Young scored from the spot.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill was elated - and rightly so as his side got their season up and running with a landmark victory.
For Liverpool, they will now they simply have to produce better - and more creative - performances as they chase their first title in 20 years.
