Crystal Palace - Sheffield Wednesday

Palace have been shipping goals for fun, recently. They conceded nine goals in three league games, plus another four at Tuesday against Preston in Cup (all four defeats), with Julian Speroni in quite a bad form. They looked for some instant solution, signed Darcy Blake, Welsh international from Cardiff and he’ll start the game.

The Owls are pretty opposite, have a draw and two wins in league with a total of 14 goals in those! They’re in a great mood and must be liking the prospect of three points today.

Going for goals, rather than away win.

Leicester City - Blackpool

The Foxes like to think they have chances for promotion. But, started with a home win against poor old Posh, then lost three on the trot - including embarrassing 2-4 at home vs. Burton in Cup. Nigel Pearson has been rotating a lot, but it’s pretty obvious their defence is the worst line in the team. They look better at home however, in their last 13 games at King Power Stadium ten times they scored two or more goals.

On the other hand, Blackpool finished previous three seasons in top-six, this one started with all three wins and ten goals scored in those! Even more, they’ve signed two strikers Eccleston (Liverpool) and Delfouneso (Aston Villa).

Norwich City - Wolverhampton
Norwich are in a sort of downtrend with three defeats and one draw out of last four in the league. However, their season looks absolutely fine (their last three seasons, actually) and they still have a chance to finish in the top-half (8th Swans have just three points more). Good news is Anthony Pilkington is back.
Wolves’ board probably had different plans with sacking McCarthy, but after they didn’t attract any serious name Terry Connor was a forced solution. In his four games in charge, Wolves have conceded 14 goals and looked pretty clueless in front (scored 2). Their confidence is certainly not a sky high, they remind me on Pompey few seasons ago and I wouldn’t be surprised if their free fall continues and just stay at the bottom.

Reading - Blackpool
Reading noticed a shocking midweek defeat at the hands of Posh, but at Madejski have five consecutive wins and nine out of last ten with goal diff. 18-4! They will miss striker, Jason Roberts (B’pool will miss Roman Bednar).
The Seasiders have only one win out of last five in the league and lost on their last two trips against not so impressive sides - Derby and Peterborough.

This will be the meeting of two free scoring and free conceding sides. Posh’s home games have produced the highest number in the league - 59, which makes an unreal average of 3.69 per a game! While they’re best scoring home team, in the visit are coming the best scoring away team - Blackpool. Also in Seasiders’ away games there have been 61 goals scored (only Ipswich made the same number), with average of 3.36 goals and their last eight trips produced three or more goals.

Visitors made two great wins in the past two rounds defeating Preston and Charlton (first for Charlton defeat at home) and all of sudden became play-off contenders. After those two wins, they must be thinking they’re gonna eat Wycombe for breakfast. Goals again.

Championship betting, Blackpool - Portsmouth 11th Feb

Blackpool are playing nice, attacking football, they’re in a play-off zone and seem to be candidates for direct promotion. They’re also undefeated in eight competitive games and have three league wins in a row.

Pompey have been struggling on and off the field. And while their money problems and unpaid wages used to have positive impact on the squad, they also have three defeats out of last four in league. In this particular case, even travelling could be a problem since they played a game at Birmingham at Tuesday, returned home and went on a long journey to north. Some important players are rated as doubts.

Blackpool and Portsmouth are two clubs in the opposite trends, I expect a nice and safe home win.

Man Utd - Blackpool,

United at home have a fearful record of 17 wins of 18 games. Only failure was a draw vs. WBA when they conceded two funny goals after 2-0 (remember how much I was happy with my -2 bet at ht). However, Blackpool are not West Ham from few seasons ago and I cannot imagine any, for them positive scenario. Nice and easy home win. 3-0 correct result.

Premier League betting, Blackpool - Bolton

Can’t really see how 2.00 (and still dropping) for the side that hasn’t won in last nine games could be a good deal. Saying that, I’ll exclude the reasoning like must win, don’t need... This really is do or die for the Seasiders, but that certainly doesn’t guarantee anything. Holloway changed their gung ho style, realizing that one point is always better than high scoring defeat. They have three draws in a row, but another draw (with a trip to Old Trafford in last round) would practically send them down. And chasing a win with a defence that has conceded 71 goals in 36 games could be very problematic.

Bolton had some very good runs of results during the season and look careless at 9th spot. They lost last three games in a row, also lost last four on the road (ten of eleven). They really look like they’re with one foot on the beach already, but this kind of games could wake the team from the lethargy.  Also, don’t think club’s board finds it the same if the Trotters finish 8th or 14th (four points margin). Coyle will be without midfielder Mark Davies.

Maybe it’s more instinct than facts, but I expect a goal fest. It’s too big stake for Blackpool even to keep minimal lead. On the other hand, big pressure could make them even more vulnerable. I’d predict goals on both sides.

Blackpool - Stoke

This is do or die game for the Seasiders (as the previous two were though). Only goal difference is keeping them above the line and beside Stoke, they’ll host Bolton and visit Spurs and Man Utd. A failure today would probably send them to Championship. They have far worst defence in Premier that in average concedes more than 2 goals per a game. At some moments they don’t even look serious, although showed some improvement against the Toon. Both sides have scored in every of previous 17 games at Bloomfield Road.

Stoke are safe and only area of interest is FA Cup and the final next Sunday. They don’t need points, but I doubt they’d like to damage team morale by losing from the side that is winless in last seven games and has one win of last 14. Besides that, Stoke haven’t lost there since 1964 (10 games). They will miss Etherington who is very important player for the team, but some other guys are in a top shape. Kenwyne Jones, Walters and Pennant should be running the riot. Also, I’m not sure Blackpool will be able to defend the set pieces.

Personally I’ll be cheering for Blackpool. Side that plays 4-3-3 in Premier League regardless the name of opponent should stay, at least for the sake of the game. They will be fighting and attacking, but poor defending will probably send them down to Championship. Goals for me.

Blackpool - Aston Villa

The Seasiders are sinking without a trace. Seven defeats of last eight Premiership games and five in a row. They’re scoring a lot, but are open at the back and have conceded a total of 49 goals (most in the league), 16 in last five games. Every game at Bloomfield Road this season produced three goals or more with both sides scoring. Goalie Rachubka suffered a knee injury in training and will be replaced with Richard Kingson (which shouldn’t be bad, actually).

Villa have been showing some improvement under Houllier with one defeat of last five and started to climb on the table. However as Blackpool have the worst home record in Premier - eleven points of eleven games, Villa are terrible (third worst in league) on the road with 9 of 13. They have kept only one clean sheet in last 16 encounters. Bent and Ashley Young are fit for the game, as well as Agbonlahor.

Blackpool will be attacking minded as always, Villa have to fancy their chances at Bloomfield. I think goals are a logic choice. Asian handicap, with three the stake is back.

Blackpool - West Ham

Obvious reasons, here. The Seasiders went in over in every home game (scored and conceded every time). My initial thoughts were to back them on -0.25ah, but they lost five of last six games in league (six of seven including Cup). Also, they’re worst hosts in Premier. New signings Reid and Beattie will be in contention.

After Wolves, The Hammers are worst travellers in league (8 points of 12 games) and they’re on the bottom. West Ham haven’t kept a clean sheet away in last 20 games. Keano will probably have his debut (I can’t see any sense in bringing him tbh), another striker Demba Ba could also be in the team.

Both defences are simply horrible and both sides are desperate for three points. Odds on goals maybe look little skinny, but it worth of a shot I’d say.

Southampton - Blackpool

S’ton are doing well in League One, second place and good run of results. Three wins in a row and eleven goals scored in those (one of them was Hudders at home 4-1). Nigel Adkins will name almost the strongest squad, only absentee is winger Lee Holmes. Striker Lee Barnard should be in starting eleven. Saints lost in the third round in only one of the last six seasons.

Holloway had an interesting press conference where he said he’ll name not weakened, but 2nd team at St Mary's. Premier League is priority, we play top games every week, blah blah. While his attitude is completely understandable, I don’t believe they’ll show the white flag before the kick-off. And it wouldn’t be the first time Blackpool to make a shock with fringe players. Also, I’m positive Holloway will not change the style of play. 

Southampton should be (at least) a slight favourite here, but at 1.90 it doesn’t worth imo. I will go for goals.

Statistic update

After free fall in October and November, my primary target was to stop the losing streak and it has been accomplished so far. December is currently green, but I'd be satisfied with zero at the end of the year (wouldn't be delighted though). Season objective is a positive balance. It won't be easy with -50 units, but I'll be working hard as always.

Stoke - Blackpool

There’s nothing that could prove me Stoke should be that short favourite today, at least because Blackpool are too hard to predict. With Stoke’s recent form with three wins and two draws of last five (one draw was impressing vs. Man City at home, other at Wigan), the conclusion is they should win. But at 1.60, I won’t touch it. On the other hand, Stoke score and concede (42 goals in total) more than in previous two seasons. They have more scoring potential than usual and their play is more attacking. Pennant, Wilkinson and Wilson are all available again.

Blackpool are the team with (my honest opinion) the worst defence line in Premiership. They simply cannot keep it tight. Their chance is to score more than opponent.  No fresh injury concerns for Holloway.

I expect an open game and goals. Unfortunately, bookies think the same and offered miserable 1.60 for over. I’ll try with over 2.75.

Monday's result and statistic update

I have an impression every game that I'm involved in has to produce some shocks. Two red cards in the first 30 minutes?! At least, bet is void not lost. All credits to WBA, didn't give up with nine players.

Blackpool – WBA

Despite they’re the poorest side in Premier and were tipped to be stuck for the bottom at the end of the season without too much points on the balance, Blackpool have noticed a decent start in the top crew. They have combat spirit and don’t respect anyone. They attacked Liverpool at Enfield and won (maybe never worse, but still it’s Liverpool), but on the other hand they have probably worst defense in  Premier. They simply can’t hold the things tight, if they don’t score will concede soon. Just on Man Utd’s games were seen more goals, they went over 2.5 in 7 of their 9 league games (two were 2-0) and all of their last 4 mutual games. Skipper and key player, Charlie Adam, is in a doubt for the game.

If the Seasiders are noticing a decent start, WBA are doing a dream one. They have 15 points and sounds unreal they’re two points far from Champions League! The characteristic that also applies to them is they’re playing without too much respect. The Baggies defeated Man City, Arsenal away, came from two behind at Old Trafford and don’t have a single defeat in last 8 competitive games! Striker Odemwingie and midfielder Morrison are in doubt, while duo Marc-Antoine Fortune and Jonas Olsson are back in contention. WBA have won their last four league games against Blackpool, scoring a total of 11 goals.

I’m sure both sides fancy their chances tonight. Blackpool want to turn the corner (if that is possible however) after four defeats in last five games. WBA are on fire and will try to keep their recent run. Both sides carry an attacking style of play, won’t show too much respect (as usual) and I don’t think there’s a chance to cancel each other and play a boring game. Goals are very likely.

Blackpool - Nottingham Forest

Ian Holloway is doing a great job in Blackpool. Differently from previous seasons, club started to collect points on the road and with great home displays reached the play-off. They’ve lost at home just four times (of 23) with goal difference 46-22. There’s also visible a very good chemistry between him and the players (especially during the Christmas crisis when they won once of ten games). Now they’re not just in play-off, but have best momentum of these four teams, noticing 19 points from their last eight games. Statistic says team with the best momentum has gone up nine times out of 20. Striker DJ Campbell is a major doubt with an arm injury, while Hameur Bouazza is still out because of a groin problem.

Forest lost the 2nd spot thankfully to terrible record of the road. At the start of the season, they did not lose any of their first 13. Then defeat to arch-rivals Derby at Pride Park started a run of 10 away trips without a win! It’s fair to say though, some of them were with the mixed team like vs. Blackpool 1-3. Considering momentum, they’re ranked 4th with 12 points out of last eight games and statistically in just 3 occasions of 20, 4th ranked club progress to Premier. With their away shape it makes not so bright picture before visiting hot place like Bloomfield Road surely is. However, Billy Davies will recall several of his first-team regulars. Only doubt is skipper Paul McKenna who can play some part in this game first time after March. Forest are without a win in 11 away matches and have won only one of their last eight matches against the Seasiders.

Big factor here is also the pressure. Blackpool have done that was expected from them. Now they’re underdogs, feel relaxed and can give their maximum in the biggest games in their history. Oppositely, Forest have been prepared for Premier very long time. They lost 2nd spot, but they’re favorites in play-off which could be a rock tied around the neck. I give the advantage to the home team and expect them to win today. Bet is -0.25 ah, best offer is at 188bet 2.14. Also, 5.00 odd for Blackpool to reach Premier should be considered as a nice gamble.

Blackpool - Nottingham Forest

Blackpool are serious play-off contender, they’re 7th with two points less than Swansea and next three rounds will be decisive for them. Their recent run of results goes in their favor, as they have four wins of last five games (only defeat was vs. Newcastle on the road, 1-4), three wins were with two goals margin and fourth was demolishing mentioned Swansea at home – 5-1. At their Bloomfield Road, they’re not generous hosts, have five wins and a draw of last six and again two goals margin were every time except vs. Ipswich 1-0. Ian Holloway is well known as great motivator and no doubt players will put 100% of their effort today. Midfielder Bouazza and forward McPhee are sidelined, while left-back Stephen Crainey and another defender Neal Eardley will face a late fitness test. The Seasiders scored in all of their last 19 home matches and are unbeaten in four matches against Forest (1 win, 3 draws).

Forest have sealed their play-off spot as they theoretically can’t move up or down from it. They had a chance for an automatic promotion, but spoiled it with shameful run of results on the road. They noticed a draw at Bristol and ended a run of eight consecutive away defeats. In last three league rounds, they’ll have problems to find any motivation. Considering latest news, boss Billy Davies intends even to rest some of his key players. Striker Dele Adebola and defender Luke Chambers are carrying the knocks and these two very probably won’t play. Goalie Lee Camp should be rested as well. The biggest motivation today will have fringe players to prove themselves for a place in a team for play-off.
