League One betting, Huddersfield - Preston

Well, being lucky sometimes or not Hudders are now undefeated in 38 (if I counted well) league games. Despite the big amount of draws in those 38, they’re second and have scored at least twice in every of last six matches at Galpharm.

After a slow start, Preston made a run of seven straight wins in the league. Then made two, well at least for me, surprising defeats on the road vs. Leyton (unlucky) and Walsall (deserved). Few days ago, in the midweek game, they got trashed against another promotion candidate - Sheff Utd (2-4). Beside some fatigue (Hudders had a free midweek), North End will be without maybe two best players Neil Mellor (Phil Brown has refused to confirm it) and Ian Hume. Additionally, midfielders Coutts and Nicholson, and defender Brian McLean all picked up knocks against the Blades and will have late fitness test.

Personally, I avoid taking Hudders when they’re short priced, they’ve wasted too much points against bottom sides just because relaxed attitude and underestimation. This is different, Preston will demand their full attention and best effort. For me, home win is clear as a tear.

England and Serbia, two bets

Huddersfield - Peterborough  

No big philosophy here. Two extremely attacking sides and even if Peterborough wish to play one of their tight games, Hudders won’t allow that. Have some ugly feeling in the gut Posh will make it, but will stick to the goals.

Vojvodina - Crvena Zvezda

This is clash for 2nd place. Both sides aren’t careless since it would bring two additional weeks for summer rest (winner will start from 3rd round qualifications for Europa League, loser from 2nd) and both coaches stated its importance. Zvezda also celebrate jubilee, 20 years from being European Champions and crowds will be packed. There’s also a little prestige between these two sides. Zvezda play extremely attacking football (with extremely poor scoring ability though), Vojvodina won’t be defending at home. I’m pretty surprised with these odds, I would rather expect something around 1.85. And it’s not like I missed something.

League One betting, Bournemouth - Huddersfield 13:45 cet

Bournemouth lost the pace when Eddie Howe left the club (for Burnley). They did secure the play-off, but crew doesn’t look like same as before. The Cherries have noticed only two wins out of last twelve matches, while the biggest concern for boss Bradbury is defence line that is still leaking too many goals (without a clean sheet in mentioned twelve). Bournemouth haven’t defeated today’s opponent in last 12 occasions (both at home and away).

Hudders are the biggest favorites in play-off and books offer 2.50-2.65 for their promotion. I can’t see how it’s better than backing them in all three games. However, they are in a pretty good shape as they have 25 games without a defeat. Also, Hudders have noticed six away wins in a row (including sides like Brighton and MK Dons) and scored 12 goals in last four games. Beside long-term injuries, boss Clark has a full squad available while loaned players all got clearance to feature.

The biggest favorites don’t always win, pressure certainly will be on them, last time they crashed under the weight of great expectations, could be down hearted for losing a direct promotion. No, not enough reasons even for a doubt. Hudders will go to Old Trafford (interesting, not Wembley). Home side in some scenario only could snatch a draw. I guess both to score is also a good bet (or 1-1 correct score could be nice gamble), but will back the visitors (with covering the draw).

Walsall - Huddersfield

The Saddlers are fighting for their lives in League One, currently big 7 points below the line. They got new manager (caretaker) Dean Smith who started the campaign with two away draws (Tranmere 3-3 and B.Rovers 2-2). They also showed some good spirit, both times coming to point from behind. Goalie  Walker and midfielder Taundry are injury doubts. Walsall conceded 12 goals in last four league games.

Before the start of the season, Hudders (with Sheff Wed) were my favourites for direct promotion. They’re still close to it (one point less than 2nd S’ton), but really need some consistency. They beat mentioned Wednesday two weeks ago and it could be a turning point for them, before strong finish. Defender Carey finished the loan and returned to Celtic, other defender Kadar started his deal. No injury worries for boss Lee Clark.

Walsall gained some confidence, I’m sure they won’t show with a white flag and will try to hurt the giants. That should guarantee an entertaining afternoon at Bescot Stadium. Nine of their last eleven encounters produced three or more goals. I see the same scenario once again.

Good night after all. I was so annoyed when Colchester turned the game from 0-1 to 2-1 and then conceded for a draw. Then I paid attention on the other results... Complete chaos! I wasn't even thinking about Cardiff and QPR, but plenty of shocking results. Leeds, Nott Forest, Bristol Rovers, Hudders, Rotheram, Peterborough... Last 3 weeks in England are real mine field. But... Most important thing. My September is green, finally!!! Yes!

Another shocking saturday. Blackburn lost the lead as Dempsey scored forth time in a row against them, Notts County came from 2-0 to 2-2 and good, old Lee Hughes brought a win. Hudders turned 0-2 into 4-2... Good day and decent profit. September starts to look better.

Huddersfield Town - Yeovil Town

Huddersfield have noticed not so good start and only because other top clubs lost some points, they’re 5th with only one point far from the top. Beside home win vs. Charlton, they drew against Bournemouth and missed to break defense of struggling Tranmere (0-0). Seems they spent all the credits given by fans and management which probably will bring a higher amount of seriousness. Two important players, midfielder Anthony Pilkington and defender Lee Peltier, are returning after absence because family reasons.

Yeovil collected decent 7 points so far, but both wins came at home against two sides that surely will struggle, Leyton and Tranmere. Good result was also surviving at Oldham (0-0), but disturbing was their disability to resist against only average sides in League One (Bristol Rovers 1-2, Hartlepool 0-2 at home) and their crash vs. Notts County (0-4). They have limited potential and I predict them a bottom side of the table. Boss Skiverton has a problem with goalkeeper as his first choice, John Sullivan, picked up an injury. He’ll give a debut to loanee, Stephen Henderson, coach Ben Roberts or youngster Steve Boore. Any of these 3 will have to cope with the pressure and rough life at Galpharm.

 

In my opinion, Hudders have been playing much under their full potential and need one trashing to get on the track. Poor travelers, Yeovil, look like an ideal opposition. 3-0, 4-0 correct score.

Notts County – Yeovil

County started the season in the manner that was really expected. They couldn’t cope with the strongest sides Huddersfield and Oldham (both 0-3), but defeated Dag&Red and fought a draw away at Bournemouth. Signs of bigger potential could be seen at Watford, in League Cup encounter where County won 2-1. Biggest problem was the absence of their mascot, striker Lee Hughes. He has been recovered from a groin injury and will take some part in this game (will start from the bench, I expect). Another two important players, midfielder Neal Bishop and striker Ben Burgess should also be fit. County are celebrating 100 year centenary today.

Yeovil started with a home win vs. Leyton (1-0), but in next five competitive games have noticed a one draw and four defeats. They looked harmless in front, with just two goals scored in those five. Additional problem for boss Skiverton is striker Sam Williams is suspended after a red card in Cup game (home defeat vs. Exeter). Two loan signings, defender Kiernan and midfielder MacDonald, could start the game. Yeovil’s main hope is a home games, while usually don’t shine on the road. Last season won 4 away games of 23, season before 6 and season before that 5.

 

Yeovil already lost against Bristol Rovers, Hartlepool and Exeter and I don’t give them too much chance today. If County want to achieve the target and keep the status in the third tier, they have to win games like Yeovil at home.

Huddersfield Town - Tranmere Rovers

Huddersfield have excellent infrastructure, more than good team for this level of competition, but always stay short for a one step. In my opinion, they’re in top 3 teams this season (beside Sheff.Wed. and S’ton) and maybe this time they can make a serious campaign for a direct promotion. The crucial thing there should be a good start. They hammered Notts County in the first round, 3-0 on the road and also away, defeated Carlisle in the Cup 1-0. At their home, Huddersfield don’t have a mercy. Last season, just one defeat in whole season (14 wins) and goal difference +30. Manager Lee Clark has no injury concerns and will probably name the same squad from the 1^st round.

Rovers are, in my opinion, main contenders for moving down. Last season were only one point above the line and had a terrible away record with just three wins out of 23 games (defeated were bottom sides Gillingham, Stockport and Wycombe) and scored only 15 goals (conceded 40)! WBA loan signing, Kayleden Brown, could have his debut, but defenders Broomes and Cathalina are out. Midfielders Taylor and Mahon are long term absentees. First round defeat, on the road vs. Oldham 1-2, probably announced a start of a season of struggling for the Rovers.

 

Huddersfield are far above today’s opponent and I could see a goal fiesta here. My only limitation is a possibility to take them easily, although Tranmere’s Cup win over Walsall calls on caution. But with any attitude, they should win this comfortably.

Bradford have lost at this stage in each of the last four years. They are chasing a fourth successive home win.

Forest are unbeaten in seven matches against the Bradford (W5, D2).

Millwall 2-0 Huddersfield WON

Steve Morison and Paul Robinson were the heroes as Millwall defeated Huddersfield to reach the League One play-off final for the second successive year.
Morison has been sensational for the Lions this season and tapped home his 23rd of the campaign in all competitions after Town keeper Alex Smithies parried a cross into his path midway through the opening half. 
As the match became increasingly stretched after the break, Scott Barron might have calmed the home supporters' nerves but he saw his strike rebound to safety off the crossbar. 
However, Robinson headed home a corner from Barron with 10 minutes remaining to settle an edgy, at times error-strewn but always engrossing match that the home team deserved to win to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory after a goalless first leg.
Millwall lost just once at home during the regular season and their victory on Wednesday keeps alive their hopes of securing their first victory through the play-offs at the sixth attempt. 
Manager Kenny Jackett will be hoping his team can go one better than last year's defeat against Scunthorpe when they meet Swindon at Wembley on 29 May. 
The Lions defeated the Robins 3-2 at the New Den in their final home game of the regular season and can go into their final match of the campaign full of confidence after a strong performance against a Terriers side left to rue missed opportunities in the first leg.

Millwall v Huddersfield Town

Millwall got what they wanted in the first leg. They looked good on the pitch and were even closer to win with two penalty appeals. However, draw from the first game is very good result, they have no reason for panic tonight and they should play as usual. And usually, Lions look very good at home. In league had just a single defeat of 23 games (five draws and 17 wins) and conceded just 15 goals, nine wins and a draw of last 10 home games! They also have more experience playing in play-off. Attacking duo Shaun Batt and Danny Schofield are returning to the squad and only absentee is winger Chris Hackett. Since the start of play-offs, 

Huddersfield will be the underdogs tonight. They’re typical home side and their hope was first game and home advantage. They missed it and now travel to win at a hell place. At the end of the season they were playing in warm-cold manner, noticed three wins and four defeats of last seven games on the road. Some of results are interesting. They trashed Stockport 6-0, but were trashed against S’ton 5-0 which could point to the lack of consistency through the game. If they score in the first part, get the wings and continue scoring for fun. And opposite. They’ll be without key defender Tom Clarke because of the knee injury he sustained in the first leg. He’ll be replaced by Robbie Williams and Lee Peltier will move to the right-back.

Home ground, better team in my opinion, more experience in games like this and good result from the first game are my reasons for home win. Also because the 0-0 in first game, this one will hardly ended with a goal margin for Millwall. My bet is Millwall –0.75, best price is 2.09 at 188bet.

One gamble for today

1.35 for Barca’s win in this stage of CL is a rubbish for me. Although I can’t really see any different outcome. Odds on goals are insult as well. Won’t get involved in this game.

Russian team is a kind of mystery for me. I have an impression CSKA look better on the road, than at home. Tonight, it looks only advantage will be artificial grass. As far as I’m aware, Italians haven’t played on it. 
I can’t imagine Inter losing after knocked out Chelsea. In such occasions, when stronger club play for a draw (I guess Mourinho would be absolutely satisfied with 1-1) game usually ends with a draw. This is my only bet today. Gamble on a draw.

Huddersfield have noticed 6 home games without a win. They fight for a play-off, but Oldham do that for their lives. And I have some ugly feeling, we’ll see Colchester in play-off. 1.55? No way.
