After those two wins, they must be thinking they’re gonna eat Wycombe for breakfast. Goals again.

Burnley are in a great shape recently and all of sudden, they’re just three points from a play-off zone. They have only one defeat out of last seven in league (it came at Elland Road with 10 men) and in all other games they kept a clean sheet. They’ve also conceded only one goal in last five games at Turf Moor.

Posh are in the opposite trend. They’re winless in last five, scored only three goals in those, have noticed three straight defeats and don’t have away win against top-half sides.

Usually hate to bet on any game when Posh are involved, but this looks too tempting...

Championship betting, Birmingham - Peterborough

Brum lost at Reading and ended their run of nine unbeaten games. However, they should be strong promotion contenders (have three games in hand). At home are undefeated (4W, 2D) and have conceded only once. Big thing for them is no Europa League game on the sight and could be focused only on this tier.

The Posh have been scoring and conceding for fun, lately. Their defence is the weakest in Championship (29 conceded goals in 16 games), and they’re the only club in the division without a clean sheet. Some important players are returning to the squad, but I think Posh won’t be able to cope with Brum’s rock solid defence and to score as much as they concede.

Expect one nice and smooth home win.

Carling Cup betting, Peterborough - Middlesbrough

                          

The Posh started this campaign in a very good manner with two wins, draw and a defeat. These are results: C.Palace (H) 2-1, Stevenage - previous Cup round (A) 2-2, Blackpool (A) 1-2, Millwall (A) 2-2, Ipswich (H) 7-1! They’re without Gabriel Zakuani, Nicky Ajose, Dave Hibbert and goalkeeper Joe Lewis, but it’s not about who will play. The Posh have a system that always brings goals, for and against. Additionally, their last 13 of 15 League Cup games ended with three or more goals.

‘Boro started to justify the role of favorites from previous season. Change of managers, looking for suitable style of play, questionable players’ selection were the problems, but now they finally started to look like serious promotion contenders. Three wins and a draw in league and win over Walsall away in the Cup. Four of these five produced three or more goals. Also, last six Carling Cup games ended with three or more goals.

I think Tony Mowbray’s side is a slight favourite here, they’re in very good shape and will certainly try to keep the momentum with another win. On the other, hand... It’s Posh. Goals for me.

This is clash for 2nd place. Both sides aren’t careless since it would bring two additional weeks for summer rest (winner will start from 3rd round qualifications for Europa League, loser from 2nd) and both coaches stated its importance. Zvezda also celebrate jubilee, 20 years from being European Champions and crowds will be packed. There’s also a little prestige between these two sides. Zvezda play extremely attacking football (with extremely poor scoring ability though), Vojvodina won’t be defending at home. I’m pretty surprised with these odds, I would rather expect something around 1.85. And it’s not like I missed something.

Charlton - Peterborough

Since Chris Powell took a charge at Valley, Charlton have noticed all three wins (Argyle, Colchester and Yeovil) with three clean sheets. They’re again contenders for direct promotion (played three games less than 2nd Bournemouth). Defender Bessone is fit and will replace Matt Fry who returned to West Ham. Midfielder Alan McCormack’s appearance is a doubt.

Peterborough are the best scorers in the league with 60 (sixty!) goals in 27 seven games, but they also concede a plenty (55, only B.Rovers are worse). However, Posh are not as efficient on their travels as at home. Just three wins of twelve encounters and total of eleven points (just Swindon are worse than that). Midfielder Frecklington returns, defender Zakuani is in doubt, while striker Hibbert is out.

I think Charlton have enough attacking power to score at least twice, while their recent defensive displays give me hope the visitors could be hold. Home win before goals.

Peterborough - Southampton (18:20h)

I’ve just checked, Peterborough’s every home game this season included Cup ended in over 2.5 (18 games)! Twelve of those produced four or more goals. They play with diamond formation in midfield that guarantees goals and entertainment. Defender Zakuani and striker Hibbert are out, but loan Man City striker - David Ball will have his debut.

S’ton are strong promotion contender sitting fourth, five points far from second place. In previous round, Saints took all three points at hard trip to Exeter coming from behind to 2-1 in additional time (both goals by Rickie Lambert). Skipper Hammond should return, new striker Jonathan Forte should be in the team, while Lallana is in doubt.

Goals are pure logic for me. Additionally, these sides are rivals for promotion, don’t lack in confidence and will go for all three points.

Hartlepool United - Peterborough United

Hartlepool are a League One side that avoided moving down for just one point in both of two previous seasons. A same dark prediction applies for the recent one as well. Only home win they noticed against drowning Walsall, but more important characteristic is they lost encounters against top sides without too much fight (Sheff Wed 0-5 and Carlisle 0-4, both at home), leaking a total of 15 goals in 5 home games! Decent resist was only against Swindon in the 2^nd round (2-2). In previous round, United froze Plymouth on the road 1-0 and in midweek defeated at home devastated Bradford. Caretaker Wadsworth will probably set the same squad that beat Pilgrims which means strikers Brown and Greulich remain sidelined. Midfielder Antony Sweeney could appear, however.

Peterborough remind me very much on WBA. They’re too strong for middleweight, but in light heavy get punches from all sides and finished seriously hurt. They’re again in League One and once again as favorites for promotion. Decent start and 2nd place for them. As today’s hosts, The Posh also have noticed some results that can roil the picture about their capabilities. They lost in both Cups, but in previous league game beat Carlisle on the road 1-0. I don’t expect them to finish lower than play-off spot and they’re not typical home side. Usually collect same number of points at home and away. Only  absence is skipper Grant McCann who is on away duty.

Hosts are strugglers with shaky defense and toothless attack. Visitors are one of the main title contenders and surely favorite here. Odds are too good to be overlooked. I expect away win.

Good night after all. I was so annoyed when Colchester turned the game from 0-1 to 2-1 and then conceded for a draw. Then I paid attention on the other results... Complete chaos! I wasn't even thinking about Cardiff and QPR, but plenty of shocking results. Leeds, Nott Forest, Bristol Rovers, Hudders, Rotheram, Peterborough... Last 3 weeks in England are real mine field. But... Most important thing. My September is green, finally!!! Yes!

Coventry 1 - 1 Plymouth

Michael McIndoe scored the equaliser as Coventry made it four games without defeat to continue their play-off push in the Championship.
The hosts had the better of the chances in the first half but went in trailing after Kari Arnason headed home Damien Johnson's free-kick before break. 
McIndoe wasted no time in drawing the home side level after the break when he coolly converted a Carl Baker pass. 
Sammy Clingan had a shot deflected wide as the hosts pressed for a winner. 
Plymouth had their first attack when Jamie Mackie drove the ball wide of the upright from the edge of the area. 
Keiren Westwood was then forced to make a fantastic save from Mackie after he drilled a strong drive towards the top corner. 
Clinton Morrison saw his shot from inside the area go harmlessly wide before a weak Clingan shot was watched wide by Plymouth goalkeeper David Stockdale. 
As the first half drew to a close Baker found himself free in the area but Plymouth's Yannick Bolaise made a last-ditch tackle to clear the ball behind for a corner. 
The Pilgrims took the lead with the final attack of the first half when Arnason glanced a header into the net from Johnson's free-kick. 
Sky Blues manager Chris Coleman made two changes at the break with Gary Deegan and Marcus Hall replacing Aron Gunnarsson and Stephen Wright. 
The changes spurred the hosts into life and after just four minutes of the second half Baker chipped the ball through for McIndoe to race onto and he slotted low into the bottom corner to level the scores. 
Coventry continued to push forward and Jon Stead almost gave them the lead with a turn and shot from the edge of the area. 
Plymouth substitute Gary Sawyer almost made an immediate impact with a long-range effort that drifted wide. 
In the closing stages Pilgrims midfielder Carl Fletcher had an effort blocked by Hall and a Chris Clark cross almost caught Westwood out.
Bolasie almost snatched the points in injury time but his volley was blocked en route to goal by Coventry's defence.

Watford 0 - 1 Peterborough

Relegation-threatened Peterborough saw off fellow strugglers Watford to claim their first away win of the season.
Brighton loanee Liam Dickinson sealed the points for the Posh with an audacious 35-yard lob over England Under-21 goalkeeper Scott Loach. 
Adrian Mariappa went close for Watford with a deflected shot, as did Danny Graham and substitute Will Hoskins. 
But the Hornets were fortunate not to concede a late second when Martin Taylor headed against his own crossbar. 
Victory gave Jim Gannon's side back-to-back wins for the first time this season. 
But a fourth successive defeat did Watford, who barely threatened before the break and were only roused once Peterborough had scored, no favours. 
And only the defiance of Loach, whose early double save denied Craig Mackail-Smith and Dickinson, and a stroke of luck, when Aaron Mclean hit the post from range, saved Watford from a heavier defeat. 
The goal came six minutes after the break when Loach, scrambling to clear with Mark Little advancing, saw the ball fall to Dickinson, who sent a calm finish over the stranded goalkeeper. 
Watford manager Malky Mackay: "We're down in that relegation area but we've got to make sure that between now and the end of the season we win as many games as possible.
"We were frustrated today, the players were frustrated but they were giving everything they had for the jersey today. 
"We've got to make sure that we stick together, which they are doing, and go out there and keep working hard on the pitch."
Peterborough manager Jim Gannon: "It's great for the fans and players because it's been a long time coming for them.
"With 11 or 12 games remaining we've got to double our points average. It's an incredible mountain for that group of players to achieve, especially if the squad's being depleted and you've got so many injuries. 
"All I'm asking them to do is go from game to game and do themselves justice and in the last two games they've certainly done that."

Watford - Peterborough

Watford have noticed just one point of last four games and they’re now just two points far from relegation zone. Good thing is their performances at Vicarage Road are actually good. Their last two loses came from very strong sides. First, Newcastle took all three points (1-2), but the truth is they scored after only two serious treats. In the last round, Hornets were unlucky against Swansea (0-1), dominating most of the game, but conceded after big error of defense line. Even more encouraging than a home shape is return of midfielder Tom Cleverley (loaned from Man.Utd.) after 3 games suspension. Interesting is Watford lost all those 3 games and lost 5 out of 6 when Cleverley didn’t play. No injury concerns for boss Malky Mackay.

 

Peterborough are on bottom without a real chance to avoid relegation. While at home fighting spirit supported with disaster pitch has been bringing some results, their away shape is scandalous. Only four draws in 17 games and nine goals scored is the far worst record in Championship. The Posh have lost their last seven away games and failed to score in the last four of them. Manager Jim Gannon has been trying to motivate players to fight till the last game, but my impression is they all know they’re already relegated. Gannon can not count on midfielder Lee Frecklington and winger Chris Whelpdale.   

 

Watford’s home displays, return of Cleverley and Peterborough on the road are main reasons. I expect a home win with two-three goals margin.

Arsenal 3 - 1 Burnley

Arsenal drew level on points with Premier League leaders Chelsea after making hard work of beating Burnley.
Cesc Fabregas opened the scoring when he slotted in from close range but soon afterwards he was forced off injured. 
Burnley equalised when David Nugent latched on to Leon Cort's header and looped the ball over Manuel Almunia. 
Theo Walcott curled in a sublime shot to ease the embarrassment of Nicklas Bendtner's awful finishing before Andrey Arshavin rifled in a third. 
Denmark international Bendtner, who scored for his country in midweek, is in the running for miss of the season with at least three of his fluffed efforts on goal. 
Fortunately for Arsenal, the impressive Walcott was able to supply the cutting edge to his game that has often been lacking to keep the Gunners' title ambitions on track. 
The result lifted Arsenal to second in the table, only behind Chelsea on goal difference although the Gunners have played a game more. 
Manchester United, in third place have the chance to leapfrog both their rivals when they take on Wolves in Saturday's late kick-off. 
And while Arsenal's victory keeps the title race wide open, it also served to leave Burnley deep in relegation trouble. 
Brian Laws' side have now won only one of their last 17 league games - and it is hard to see how they will turn things around after another performance lacking guile and belief. 
In contrast, there was mental toughness in evidence from the hosts, who were determined to show that the horrific broken leg suffered by Aaron Ramsey against Stoke last weekend would not derail their season.

Peterborough 0 - 1 Coventry

Jon Stead's first-half winner saw Coventry close in on the Championship play-off places as Peterborough slipped a step closer to relegation.
Stead looked second favourite when he broke through in the first half but shrugged off defender Craig Morgan and stabbed the ball past Joe Lewis. 
Tommy Rowe saw a powerful drive blocked as the hosts pushed for an equaliser. 
Charlie Lee and Lee Frecklington both shot over as Posh surged forward but Coventry held on to clinch the points. 
Posh are now 13 points adrift of safety with just 12 games remaining and their brief flirtation with second-tier football is rapidly coming to an end. 
The Sky Blues, meanwhile, are up to eighth and only three points off the play-off places.

Peterborough United - Coventry City

Peterborough are stuck for the bottom with big ten points less than the first club above the relegation line. They have two wins in last 11 league games, but both came in last two home encounters (QPR 1-0 and Ipswich 3-1). With 13 rounds left, it seems Posh are safe for dropping down to the third tier. They simply lack in quality and have noticed such number of points only thankfully to fanatic spirit and very bad home pitch (will be rain and again soiled surface). Club sent on loan to Nott.Forest best player, midfielder George Boyd and made real unrest in the dressing room. They’ll be without defender Ryan Bennett, midfielder Josh Simpson, while striker Reid and defender Geohaghon will have late fitness tests. New on-loan signing from Wolves, Mark Little should make his debut. All 5 of Posh's league wins this season have been at home, but none of them have been against sides currently in the top half of the table.

 

Coventry are in more than decent run of results with four wins (including Forest and Palace on the road) and a defeat (Newcastle, 1-4 on the road) in last five games. Defeat vs. Toons at the same time was the only one in last eight games. Boss Coleman said before last game (Scunny, 2-1 at home) it was the decisive moment in the season. Win would launch them into play-off contenders (3 points far, now), otherwise would be judged for middle-table fate. Won caused the team morale is higher than ever, fans support as well (3000 fans are expected today). Coventry are without defender Richard Wood and midfielder David Bell, while defender Leon Barnett is suspended. Midfielder Sammy Clingan will need to be assessed.

 

To stay in Championship, Peterborough  should make an incredible run of results. It’s impossible and they know it. One early conceded goal would mean surrender. City are flying high, no pressure, great manager, decent squad and current run of results make them the favorites today. Draw no bet on away side.

Chelsea 2-4 Man City

Manchester City inflicted Chelsea's first home Premier League defeat this season in a game which began with Wayne Bridge refusing John Terry's handshake.
Frank Lampard's low strike put Chelsea ahead but Carlos Tevez equalised after a long ball was not dealt with, before Craig Bellamy shot beyond Hilario. 
Tevez scored a penalty after Juliano Belletti saw red for a trip on Gareth Barry before a Bellamy tap-in. 
Michael Ballack also saw red and Lampard scored a consolation penalty. 
City had failed to score in their previous seven visits to Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea had only conceded eight at home in the Premier League all season. 
But those statistics were rendered meaningless on an afternoon of triumph for City coach and former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini, who pitted his wits in the Premier League for the first time against ex-AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti. 
City saw their hopes of silverware this season ended by their FA Cup defeat at Stoke in midweek but they boosted their prospects of a top-four finish by completing the double over Chelsea for the first time since 1957.
With Manchester United not in league action this weekend, victory would have taken Chelsea four points clear at the top of the Premier League. 
But it was a disastrous afternoon for Ancelotti, whose side had only dropped points in one previous home game this season, a 3-3 draw with Everton. 
What's more, his team lacked discipline after the break and were vulnerable in defence, with Hilario looking particularly suspect.

Swansea 1 - 0 Peterborough

David Cotterill extended promotion-chasing Swansea City's unbeaten run to 12 games and pushed bottom club Peterborough closer to relegation.
Cotterill struck from the spot after Charlie Lee brought him down. 
Nathan Dyer had an effort cleared off the line while keeper Joe Lewis denied Ferrie Bodde and Lee Trundle. 
Lee Frecklington put a header wide for the Posh but Swansea's biggest worry was the injuries to midfielder duo Bodde and Darren Pratley. 
Bodde was making his return from five months out with a knee problem and the Dutchman's exit after just 28 minutes raised question marks as to whether he was ready to play. 
It was the third time in 15 months Bodde has suffered an injury to his left knee. In November 2008 he suffered cruiciate ligament damage and then broke down after eight minutes of his starting return against Sheffield United last September. 606: DEBATE 
Give your thoughts on Swansea v Peterborough 
The double-blow will add to manager Paulo Sousa's midfield woes with Joe Allen, Andrea Orlandi and Jordi Lopez already sidelined. 
But the fourth-placed Swans kept their focus on the job in hand and are seven points off an automatic promotion spot and eight ahead of Sheffield United in seventh. 
Peterborough remain 10 points adrift of safety and winless on the road.

Swansea - Peterborough

Swansea are 4th, six points above the play-off zone and it seems they’re living their pre-season expectations. They gain specific, fighting style of play, scored the least number of goals in Championship (same number as today’s opponent), but also conceded least (same as Newcastle). At home have just two defeats, but seven draws alongside that number of wins. They haven’t lost in 11 league games since a 1-0 home defeat against Nottingham Forest on 12.12.. Shortly, Swans are hard working side that hard score but much harder concede. They’re consistent and one of the safe play-off spots is for them. Midfielders, Joe Allen and Andrea Orlandi are out, while striker Gorka Pintado is suspended. Key midfielder Leon Britton and striker Cedric van der Gun are fit to return. The Swans are undefeated in seven league games against Posh (3 wins, 4 draws).

Peterborough are stuck for the bottom, with 10 point less than first above the line Sheff.Wed. and it seems Posh are first team in the third tier. They have two wins in last two home games (Ipswich and Cardiff) and have been making some improvement under Jim Gannon, but they simply don’t possess enough quality for Championship. They’ve made seven consecutive defeats on the road (3 goals scored and 16 conceded)! Nottm Forest 2 - 1 Reading

Nottingham Forest extended their unbeaten league run to 18 matches and closed the gap on Championship leaders Newcastle with a victory over Reading.
Paul Anderson put the hosts 1-0 in front in the 11th minute before Robert Earnshaw struck in the 41st minute. 
Reading earned a penalty in an incident which saw Nicky Shorey sent off, but goalkeeper Lee Camp saved Brian Howard's 68th-minute spot-kick. 
Camp twice denied Simon Church before Jimmy Kibbe grabbed a late consolation.
The victory takes Forest to within two points of leaders Newcastle while Reading, fresh from their FA Cup giant-killing exploits against Liverpool in the week, plunge further towards the relegation zone following their sixth league game without a victory.

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies:
"We could have had four or five goals in the first half but only scored twice and that gave Reading the opportunity to come back at us. 
"It was a potential trapdoor for us playing against a side in a totally false position and they nearly made us pay in the second half. 
"If we had scored a third goal - as we should - it would have been a totally different type of game in the second half and it's a lesson for us to learn." 
Reading caretaker manager Brian McDermott:
"We were very disappointed with our first-half performance but we were much better in the second and I thought we should have got something from the game. 
"The Forest keeper was the man of the match and if we had scored 10 minutes earlier than we did, we would have got some reward. 
"But we nearly got something against a very strong and talented team who have a really good chance of going up this season."

Peterborough 0 - 3 Derby

DJ Campbell scored two to punish nine-man Peterborough and ease the pressure on manager Nigel Clough as Derby earned a first victory in five league matches.
The hosts were never in it after Craig Morgan saw red for a lunge at Campbell, and Ryan Bennett was then sent off for a professional foul on the same player. 
Steve Davies scored from the resulting penalty and Derby took total control. 
Campbell made it 2-0 on the follow-up after his initial shot was saved and then headed home to round off the win. 
Victory takes the Rams up to 18th in the table, seven points clear of the drop zone, and leaves Posh holding up the pack five adrift of safety. 
And the result was never in doubt after Morgan's senseless tackle on Campbell rightly brought about his early bath.

Peterborough manager Mark Cooper:
"I'm loath to condemn either the referee or my players involved after only seeing the incidents once in the heat of the moment. 
"Those dismissals changed a game in which we were playing really well and creating the best chances. 
"Even when down to nine men our effort and commitment was absolutely first class."

"Their player's feet were off the ground for the first red card and DJ (Campbell) was through on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat for the second. 
"Obviously it was a big result for us. To go away and score three goals, collect three points and keep a clean sheet was very pleasing. 
"Although I don't think we played as well against nine men as we had against 11."
